FLOOD THEORIES

Many civilizations, races and religions speak of a variety of universal floods that happened at some unknown time in the past.  The details are different with each, but one thing they all seem to have in common is that a god or deity of some kind was unhappy with the way things were going so a flood was sent to destroy everything and everyone.

For example, in Greek mythology a race of humans were at war all the time, which angered the Greek god, Zeus.  As a result, Zeus punishes humanity with a flood.  Prometheus, a Titan who is said to have created humans from clay, learns of Zeus’s plan to send a flood that will destroy humanity. In turn, he tells his son, Deucalion, advising him to build an ark so that he will be saved.  The waters receded and the ark lands on a mountain after about nine days and nights.

In the Gilgamesh flood myth, the world is destroyed with a flood by the Mesopotamian god, Enlil, because humans have become too noisy.  Another god, Ea (Babylonian & Akkadian mythology), formerly known as the god, Enki, the god of water, who is said to have created humans out of clay and blood, warns another god, Utnapishtim, and provides instructions for building a boat.

Hindu mythology has several texts, Satapatha Brahmana and Puranas, that speak of a great flood. The god, Vishnu, warns Manu, the first man, of a flood that is coming and encourages him to build a giant boat.

Here we will focus on two universal floods that are referenced in the Bible – LUCIFER'S FLOOD and NOAH'S FLOOD.  This topic ties back to Gap Theory and the possibility of a pre-Adamic Civilization

Isaiah 14:12-14 (NIV)
12 How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!
13 You said in your heart, "I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly,
on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon.

14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.”

Genesis 6:1-4 (NIV)

They were the heroes of old, men of renown.
