FALLEN ANGELS
How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! Isaiah 14:12 (KJV)

For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment. 2 Peter 2:4 (KJV)

And the angels that kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Jude 1:6 (KJV)
Throughout the Bible, other texts, and a variety of ancient legends, we're told of angels and gods who rebelled and descended from the heavens. They go by many names - the Watchers, Sons of Heaven, Sons of God, Morning Stars, Kings, and the Shining Ones to name a few, but who were they really?

While there are many, probably the most well-known scripture reference on this topic is Genesis 6:1-4 (ESV):

1 When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them,
2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose.
3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.”
4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.
WHO ARE THEY?

Bne-Ha-Elohim (Hebrew) - Sons of God

As detailed on our Angels page, they are creations of God that have their own physical bodies. They are able to manifest in time and space and appear in human form.

They are called 'Watchers' in other texts such as 1 Enoch.

The idea that the 'sons of God' were angels was maintained by the ancient Jewish Synagogue, Hellenistic Jews, at and before the time of Christ. This was also acknowledged and 'main stream' by the Christian Church until the fourth century.

The interpretation of Genesis 6:1-4 was interpreted supernaturally until the late fourth century, A.D. when it fell out of favor with some of the early church fathers (i.e. Augustine).

The sons of god referenced in Genesis 6 are the parents of the Nephilim. They are those who intermarried with the daughters of men (human women) and produced a race of giants called the Nephilim (Genesis 6:4). You can review more detail about these giants on the Nephilim page.

1 Enoch, which supports Genesis 6, tells us that the sons of God (angels) came down from heaven to Mount Hermon, the highest mountain in Israel, where they began to insert themselves into human civilization, began mating with women, and produced their hybrid giant offspring (half human, half angelic beings known as the Nephilim).

The idea of humans and divine beings interacting, let along having a sexual relationship, is a far-fetched idea to some. However, the Bible gives us examples of how angels can manifest in bodily form:
Genesis 18-19: God and two other divine beings met with Abraham, in the flesh, and also had a meal with him.
Genesis 19:10: We're told that men from Sodom wanted to seize the two angels that came to visit with Lot in order to have sex with them.
Genesis 32:22-31: Jacob wrestled with 'man', referenced as God, which left him with an injury.
Luke 1:26: God sent the angel, Gabriel, to Nazareth to speak with Mary.
John 20:12: Mary Magdalene saw two angels in while sitting where Jesus' body had been in the tomb. They had a conversation with her about Jesus.

None of this is possible without being in physical form.

Satan and other fallen angels are able to morph into a variety of things - incubi, succubi, satyrs - different morphological forms of fallen angels. These are things we've read about in folklore for years.
Chuck Missler's book, Alien Encounters, provides a great overview on this topic, specifically in chapter 12.

Dr. Michael Heiser also has some great information on this in his book, Reversing Hermon: Enoch, The Watchers & The Forgotten Mission of Jesus Christ .

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE SONS OF GOD REFERENCED IN GENESIS 6?

Since they left their designated positions, came down to earth, and committed abnormal sexual relations fornication with the daughters of men contrary to their own nature, according to Genesis 6:4, they were thrown into the bottomless pit and will eventually be judged:

And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day. Jude 6:1 (ESV)

When they left their dwelling (positions of authority or estate, as some other versions reference), we don't believe this was just a physical departure and relocation from heaven to earth. This was a departure from their true nature, who God made them to be. At that moment, they were changed physically, just as Adam and Eve were changed from their original state when they first sinned. Their bodies, minds and spirits were changed from what God originally created them to be.
LUCIFER
The Hebrew word 'Lucifer', found in Isaiah 14:12, is 'Heilel'

Other names (and there are many more): Satan, Devil, Morning Star, Shining Star, Light-Bearer, Shining One, Son of the Morning, the King of Tyre, King of Babylon, god of the air, Beelzebub, Belial, Serpent, Dragon, Enlil, lord of the dead,

There are scriptures all throughout the Bible that reference these various names. A few are: Ephesians 2:2, Isaiah 14:12, and Ezekiel 28.
Who is he?

-
A fallen cherub - created by God.
-
He was called Lucifer in the first earth (pre-Adamic) prior to his fall. After his fall, he was called Satan.
-
He is a King and has a kingdom (Matthew 12:24-30). His kingdom is made up of 'Principalities', 'Powers', 'Rulers of darkness', and 'Wicked Spirits in the Heavenlies' (Ephesians 6:12).
-
He's described as being the god of this world in 2 Corinthians 4:4, the ruler of this world in John 16:11, the deceiver of nations in Revelation 20:3, and John 5:19 tells us that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

What he's not

-
He is not an 'idea', a reference to evil or born of a human. He was a created, living being.
-
He fell from the position he held on earth (pre-adamic), not heaven.
-
We are told of his fall in Ezekiel 28 and Isaiah 14.

We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against Principalities, against Powers, against the Rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12
BEFORE HIS FALL
-
Earth was his home, his kingdom - he was given the earth long before his fall
-
According to Ezekiel 28:14 he was one of the Cherubim attending the throne of God
-
He was in a position of power and authority - he sat in the government of God as ruler over the creation of God
-
He stood between God and God's creation
-
His authority was derived from God and God worked through him
-
He had access to the highest realms of heaven into the very presence of God
-
He was perfect in beauty and full of wisdom
-
Every precious stone (Sardius, Topaz, diamond, beryl, onyx, jasper, sapphire, turquoise, emerals with gold) was his covering when in Eden - an indication of rank and position in the first earth (pre-adamic)
-
He sat on the holy mountain of God
-
He was the ruler of the pre-adamic world
-
He had a throne, kingdom and subjects to rule over
-
His kingdom was under the clouds, stars and heaven (aka - on earth)
-
Music surrounded him from the very from moment of his existence
Reason for his fall
PRIDE
His wisdom and beauty led to the pride that caused him to rebel against God:

You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High." Isaiah 14:13-14 (NIV)

God's response to Lucifer's pride

"Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings. By your many sins and dishonest trade you have desecrated your sanctuaries. So I made a fire come out from you, and it consumed you, and I reduced you to ashes on the ground in the sight of all who were watching. All the nations who knew you are appalled at you; you have come to a horrible end and will be no more." Ezekiel 28:17-19 (NIV)

The KJV reads:

"Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. Thou has defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more."

A few things to note:

-
These verses also tie back to our topic of a pre-adamic civilization. They do not reference some future event or time.
-
The people, nations and kings referenced in these scriptures are pre-adamic.
-
Sanctuaries - these were the sanctuaries Lucifer had in the pre-adamic world where he and his subjects worshiped God before he decided to rebel.
-
Dishonest trade / Iniquity of thy traffick - this refers to Lucifer slandering God to his subjects and gradually leading them and some of the angels to rebel openly against God.
AFTER HIS FALL
Lucifer became known as Satan, a Hebrew word meaning 'an adversary; one who resists' - an adversary of God and man

Other names: Devil - in Greek, diabolos', means adversary, false accuser, slanderer
Where is he now?
-
Contrary to what some believe, he and his angels are not in hell (yet). He is on our earth going to and fro throughout it (Job 1:7; 2:2).
-
He is the 'Prince of the Powers of the air' (Ephesians 2:2) and 'The god of this world/age' (2 Corinthians 4:4).
-
He also still has access to the heavenlies and has access to God (Revelation 12:9-12). Spiritually he is exiled, but physically he still has access to heaven (Job 1 and 2).
-
He hasn't been punished yet so he doesn't know what hell is like except from what he knows from the Bible.
-
He is not omnipresent - he can't be in two places at the same time.
Did You Know?
-
He is a fallen angel from earth, not heaven - sin did not begin in heaven, it began on earth (pre-adamic)
-
When he was unwilling to rule the original earth (pre-adamic) as a subordinate, and wanted to rule it independently of God. He put his own will in opposition to the will of God - that was sin - THE FIRST SIN EVER; THE ORIGIN OF SIN.
-
He first appears in our world on the 6th day when man was created (Genesis)
-
Even in his fallen state Christ called him the 'prince of the world' (John 14:30)
-
His goal in the garden of Eden: to detach man from God and attach man to himself
-
He was cast out of 'the holy mountain of God' and 'out of Eden, the garden of God' (pre-adamic) - Ezekiel 28:13,14 (KJV, NIV)
-
While he lost his position with God he still possesses the office of government, prince of the world
-
Has the power to bring disease and suffering (Job)
-
Although he is one of the wisest of all creatures, he is limited in his wisdom
-
He has no new ideas, plans or methods since the time scripture showed us who he is - there is nothing new under the sun (Ecclesiastes 1:9)
-
He knows the Bible well and knows what it has to say about him. He's quoted it and tries to twist the scriptures when attempting to deceive us. (Matthew 4:6; Psalms 91:11-12; many more)
-
He has no power other than what God gives him (Job; 2 Corinthians 12:7; many more)
-
He doesn't know what goes on in the hearts and minds of men (God does)
-
Those we know who have met Satan personally: Eve (Genesis 3:11), Peter (Matthew 16:23; Luke 22:31), and Ananias (Acts 5:3)
